Counseling with clarity and steadiness.

I am Robert Samczuk, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas and the founder of Wayfarer Strategic Counseling. I work with adults who want more than symptom relief. They want to understand their own minds clearly enough to act with judgment and steadiness when life becomes difficult.

My work is structured and collaborative. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy for the practical mechanics of change, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to build on what is already working, Reality Therapy for honest accountability, and psychodynamic and psychoanalytic concepts to understand the deeper roots of a pattern. Which of these I rely on depends on you and the work in front of us.

I do not believe a person can be reduced to a diagnosis or a number. The symptom matters, but the experience underneath it is where the real work happens. My aim is not to make you dependent on therapy; it is to leave you better equipped, with clearer judgment and tools you can carry for the rest of your life.

The person behind the practice

Beyond the counseling room

I think it matters that the person guiding your work is a whole human being, not only a list of credentials. A good fit is part method and part personality, so here is a little of who I am away from the screen.

Outside of session, I spend as much time as I can outdoors. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and camping, along with reading, fitness, history, philosophy, gaming, and tabletop roleplaying. I have always been drawn to stories about courage, friendship, sacrifice, and the choices people make when life becomes difficult. Sherlock Holmes is a longtime favorite, and I will freely admit that I consider The Lord of the Rings the greatest film series ever made.

I am also a practicing Catholic. My faith is a personal part of who I am rather than a part of the therapy itself—you are never expected to share it—but it grounds the values I bring to the work: a deep respect for human dignity, honesty, and a steady belief that people are capable of real and meaningful change.

I value time outdoors because it helps me slow down, think clearly, and reconnect with what matters. There is something grounding about being on a trail, carrying what you need, and paying attention to the path in front of you.
